Rounds 1&2 Castle Combe
Although this is a bit late its exactly a week after the first round at Castle Combe and were nearly ready for the second round at Brands Hatch which we will be heading down for in 10 days time. After 2 very long journeys backwards and forwards to Combe due to testing a week before the race it certainly wasn't the easiest start to the year however the whole team worked like a well oiled machine and even with a busy 5 car awning and changing conditions through out the race day we had some great results and great race pace. Tim Neat coming back after being absent for a large part of last year showed his quality putting the car 2nd and 1st for the 2 races in the very wet conditions on Monday morning and in the first race proved he hadn't forgotten any of the race craft that he's always shown in the past leading most of the race up until the safety car came out and bunched the pack up which lead to Tim being swapped and squeezed off the track causing a spin . As the race unfolded Ben Powney showed his speed after a slightly disappointing qualifying he came from 14th on the grid to finish 2nd even with 3 laps under the safety car. The second race didn't quite go so smoothly after hitting an oil patch on the second lap ben had a spin coming out of the second chicane leaving him at the back of the field as he retook to the track but a very impressive drive saw clime back to 13th in less than 10 minutes of racing. our youngest driver supported by the TSR team Tom Gadd had and excellent first round showing great pace from the start qualifying 5th and 4th for the 2 races and finishing 5th and 9th after some great battles with much more experienced drivers. although a very difficult weekend Matt Graux came away with a very positive attitude not the most confident in the wet and with changing conditions on a new track. the results didn't show the whole picture but with great battles in both races and improvement throughout the day the best is yet to come. Karlos a new driver to our team this year showed very good driver skill and race craft after realising we were struggling for ultimate power he drove round most of the problems that occurred finishing 16th in the first race and looking very competitive inside the top 10 in the second race until a plug lead fell off going through the 1st chicane around 4 laps in. After 7 years away for driver and car Samir and the team have certainly had there work cut out with niggling problems causing issues in testing and qualifying the only way was up which is exactly what he did climbing 5 places in the first race and an impressive 16 places in the second while improving the car each time he took to the track. Craig Land a new driver to the Locost field running a TSR built and prepared car showed great pace and qualities in his first ever long circuit car racing debut qualifying 16th for both races in a field of 42 cars and having a great 1st race finishing 23rd having an unfortunate spin the second race left him at the back of the field but learning every time he goes out im sure he will get quicker and quicker. I would finally like to say a huge congratulations to Paul clark for a great weekend after working on the car here at TSR over winter he made the most of it and showed that he could compete at the top coming from 12th on the grid to finish 4th just being beat to the podium on the last corner im sure that first podium will come soon.
